Diskalopsia: The Introduction to a set of unique and elysian elements
Facts which at first seem improbable will, even on scant explanation, drop the cloak which had hidden them and stand forth in naked and simple beauty ~ Galileo Galilei
Made you catch a breath didn't I? Sometimes, science isn't only about facts, creativity and exploration, its more of an imploration. By imploration, I mean, the discovery of one's own self. The cruciality of science lies in connecting science to life itself. When anything is connected to life, we simply cannot ignore it. Family, responsibilities, jobs, hobbies etc. are things that are connected to a person's day-to-day life be it the outcome of true interest or mandatory survival necessity. Science teaches us to question several things which lie unanswered to mankind. The answers that are not covered by science was framed by mankind as "God". Needless to say, science tends to move towards the replacement of God, but it can never completely attain the position of "God", because God, is ironically a demon. A demon like Hydra, because for every answer that science gives you today, ten more questions arise for science to solve it tomorrow.
I was keen into starting this series of posts that discuss the rather unique set of beauties that are observed in certain elements or compounds. Some of these are not very well known to many of us chemists (I might not know about many apart from these as well). The idea of creating these posts is to give people information on the individuality of certain elements that are truly incredible in nature and puts us in a state of awe. I shall post about one element or a compound each week (maybe even 2 per week) in a brief set of paragraphs that discuss its uniqueness and rather not its properties and chemical nature (I'm not intending to publish a textbook on them) which I guarantee would definitely surprise you, or at least it did so in my case. Meanwhile, if you have come across any elements/molecules that surprises you till now, let me know about them in the comments section down below, I shall gather information about them and tag it along with my posts as a special mention. You can also personally contact me at decadhya@gmail.com.
For the people wondering about the title of this series, Diskalopsia is not an actual word, and since English is not a copyrighted language, I hope I'm legal to make new words that can give meanings to what my thoughts actually are. The Greek word Kalopsia refers to things that look beautiful but are rather not so. It also explains a delusional mindset of thinking things that are unattractive as attractive (typical mindset of a serial killer for example). On the other hand, I came up with Diskalopsia to define the opposite, that is, "things that do not look beautiful, but in reality they are actually way more beautiful than you can ever imagine". Its a simple wordplay and I do not want the people with a hard critic nature reading this to get offended by me creating new things. Either way, I hope this introduction created at least a slight interest on to learning new things in chemistry. See you soon this week, I shall keep you posted. Have an amazing day!๐๐
